About the Show
DC Roots: Guitar Edition is a weekly radio program celebrating the guitar players who shaped the Washington, D.C. sound. Co-hosted by bassist John Previti and filmmaker Bryan Reichhardt, the show explores the music of local guitarists past and present, from the rockabilly and country-jazz of Danny Gatton to the blues innovations of Roy Buchanan and the next generation carrying the torch.
Your Hosts
John Previti spent eighteen years as Danny Gatton’s bass player, witnessing firsthand the development of the “Anacostia Delta” sound — a crossroads of jazz, blues, country, R&B, and rockabilly that makes the D.C. region unique. As music director of the Anacostia Delta documentary, Previti organized a tribute concert at the Birchmere featuring thirty local musicians.
Bryan Reichhardt is a filmmaker and documentarian who directed the Anacostia Delta documentary, an acclaimed film about the guitar heroes of the D.C. area. His deep knowledge of the region’s musical history brings context and insight to every episode.
Each episode features recordings from local guitarists, stories from the D.C. music scene, and conversations about the musicians who defined the region’s sound. From the clubs of Southeast D.C. to the roadhouses of Northern Virginia, DC Roots: Guitar Edition traces the legacy of the Anacostia Delta.
