JazzTimes: Swinging Lullabyes for My Rosetta

JazzTimes | 2003 | By Nate Chinen

A review of John Previti’s debut album as a leader, Swinging Lullabyes for My Rosetta on Mapleshade Records. Previti, best known for his 18 years backing guitar legend Danny Gatton, steps forward with a dyed-in-the-wool swing record featuring D.C.-area vibraphonist/pianist Joe Cocuzzi and guitarist Rick Whitehead.

“Maryland bassist John Previti has backed rockabilly guitarist Danny Gatton as well as jazz plectorists Charlie Byrd and Herb Ellis. But Swinging Lullabyes for My Rosetta (Mapleshade), his first album as a leader, is a dyed-in-the-wool swing record.”

The album also features vocals from drummer Big Joe Maher and Marianna Previti, John’s wife and frequent musical collaborator.
